'Errezil' Apple

The variety of reineta apple called Errezil is named after the village in the Urola region. It is a food item which is very much appreciated in cuisine for its culinary versatility and potential. Experts define it as one of the highest quality apples for making cider. It has an acid flavour and a green-yellowish colour with brown spots. It is medium in size and a crushed shape, it is covered by a hard and rough skin. This variety is known in the Basque Country since time immemorial and is grown in a myriad of country houses.

The Errezilgo Azoka association organises the Errezil Apple Day every year. Every year on the first Sunday in December producers from the municipality hold a market where apple and its products such as cider, apple based desserts, etc., are sold.
